    Hello,
I am new at this and was wondering how do I go about replacing my rear drum brake shoes. I am having a very hard time removing the drum and since I have never replaced shoes before I would love to hear how to do it and kinda know what I am up against....
I wish these were disc brakes...
Thanks for any and all advise!

    Jeff

if the drums have been on there awhile, it can be hard to remove them. there can be a lot of rust build up or the shoes could have wore a lip in to the drum, so the shoes will have to be backed out with the star adjuster. if adjusting the pads does not help then you will need to get some PB Blaster and a hammer. a last resort which is a rarity is getting a drum puller and pull the drum off along with all the hardware behind it.

just remember to do one side at a time so you have a reference when your putting the one side back together.

sometimes when i have a rusted drum, i will whack it a few times with a good shop hammer to break it loose. dont try to beat it off. more or less hit it a few good times just to jar it. kinda like at the whack-a-mole game.

i broke 2 5lb sledge hammers at work once by playing wack-a-mole with an axle shaft.
