Okay guys, quick question. I have a 2003 chevy silverado, half ton 4x4 with a 5.3 and the 4l60e, that is starting to slip from 1st to second.. I have a 2005 chevy, same truck, with a 4l60e, with a bad engine. The dealership is telling me that they're different part #s, but not sure what the difference is. My question, can I swap the 2005 trans into the 2003?

Probably a difference in tranny controller. You might try servicing the 03 tranny.

We've serviced it 100 miles ago. This is a mine personnel truck. So it gets beat.

Might able to look at the wire connector see if they are the same, might also check the fluid make sure it not low. How many miles on the 03 tranny?

Might be better to just rebuild the 03 tranny than hopeing the 05 fits, I got mine rebuilt for 650 bucks but had to do the R&R, other shops wanted 800 and up. When I had mine done he did some little tweaks and fixes, if the 03 had the factory tranny and got that many miles then it was a good one.

Well, we wont rebuild. It will just get factory replacement. Its just the 05 is brand new, and has a junk motor in front of it.

Well if its gotta be replaced anyway can take the 05 and put in the 03 see if it works, would make sure the wire connector is the same if it is it should fit. Does the 03 and 05 have the same or close to same body style or motor setup? If they do chances are it will fit in there.
