Is an Oil Pan Replacement Beyond My Means?

98 GMC K3500 1 ton dump 4x4 which is rusting like ****! Last year replaced the fuel tank and a brake line. Now the oil pan is leaking! Is this something an average ability guy can do? Also, was thinking of applying Rust-Mort by SEM paints to the frame to stop the rust, then coating it with under carriage spray. Whtdya think?

Thanks

Bert - NH

Try to trace the leak to it's origin first. As for the rust, if you can Id have the frame sandblasted then treated. If you just cover up the rust, it will only come back many times worse. If you cant get it sandblasted, treat it with Naval Jelly. This is the same stuff they use on ships to stop rust.

Not a hard job, but you'll have to get the front differential assembly out of the way first... and on the ground without a lift, that will be nearly impossible, unless you can get it a good 24" off the ground.
