| general motors G.M. workers are thinking of going on strike. i also heard a news report where the heads of the company were not concerned. they saw it as an easy way to save money since truck sales are doing so bad and they were planning on cutting production. if they could find a way to get rid of the baby boomers making 20 something an hour they could probably pull their selves out of this hole

| Aren't the baby boomers pretty much your parents ? They are not getting paid that much because of their age, but because of their experience or their union. Companies have no desire to pay any more than the minimum required to get the job done. So they pay enough to get someone to show up, enough to meet the law, enough to keep a union from costing them money or customers, enough to keep a special worker from jumping ship. If that pay amount is too high for the companies bottom line, it will move the jobs (in or out of country) or fold the operation Sometimes a big company will call that fold a merger or like term. Regardless, the high pay job is eliminated and probably would not be allowed by outside forces to be re-offered at a lower pay. $20 ? Sounds high compared to minimum wage. But mostly from where you stand. If anyone living within 60 miles of me made that kind of money, they would be poor - couldn't afford a house, kids, savings account. Within 15 miles of me, make that poor trash ner'do'wells. Fed has a min wage, CA is higher, but my county requires more than double Fed, and if the company does business in any way with the county it's even higher. I do not like unions in their current concept, though I have no problem with the original concept. I think much of what's wrong with unions is also wrong outside of the unions amongst way to many people. Sign of our slipping culture but there is a cure. And that cure is inescapable. The more the attitude prevails the more unions bust themselves, the more individuals wind up in jail or on the street. The difference between the individuals and the unions is it's easier to see what one person is doing to themselves but groups have the delusion that numbers mean they're on to something. If you wind up broke, no job, no pension, it really doesn't matter if you were a part of a group. Wait, What was the question ? Feel a little like a certain Junior Miss USA contestant. |

| i'm sorry, i worded my comment wrong once again. my comment was not focusing on the amount of pay, but on the number of employees. yes, my parents are baby boomer's. the problem with G.M, is they have to many people laid off which they still have to pay because of the work force they required during the 60's and early 70's. i would be greatly surprised if they hired an assembly line worker since the late 90's, with the amount of people laid off they have no need to hire. my dad was laid off for 6 months and had to go sit in a room 8 hours a day for that time waiting for the union to find him an opening in a plant after they closed his down.

| I was just kidding you about your folks, like are you trying to get them fired? Sounds more like your dad got a jail sentence than just laid off. Seems as though the parties are resolving their differences by not talking today. |

| I was talking to one of my customers yesterday that is in the leasing business, they actually has an increase in leases which she thought was strange. I will have to ask some of the dealership what they think. I'll have to call my aunt sometime, I think she was working for GM out in Detroit, lucky she only does janitorial type stuff so I am not sure how that will effect her.
