I don't think either of these can be compared. The "Best Muddin Truck" would be whichever truck is built best. I mean, you can have a Toyota on Rockwells and a big block in it, and a Ford on stock D44/D60 and guess which one will be the better Muddin truck

Get my drift?

So... do you mean stock? If yer talkin stock, then I'd go with Ford of course

Any 1973/1993 Dodge Fullsize 4x4. They came with Solid front and rear axles with spicer shafts. I dont really care for ford because of the TTB setup. I have seen ones that have had a true solid axle swapped in. but its only as good as you build it.

This all boils down to tires and the ability to turn them. Any vehicle can be a good mud vehicle, Heak I have a little Samuri, bone stock 1.3L engine stock air cleaner and carb, no header and I still run a cat converter. 5.38 gears and lockers front and rear with little tiny swamper TSL's. This goes everywhere my big mud truck goes, and sometimes I am almost ashamed to say, more.
This does not really have as much to do with axle design or even the manufacturer of the vehicle as much as it has to do with tires and power to weight ratio.

ttb only came out in 1980. and only on the f150/250. '72-79 fords came with the same dana up front as dodges and chevs, the only difference being the lengths and diff sides. you have to realize gmc, dodge and ford used the same parts suppliers in the 60's 70's and most of the 80's. axles, manual trannies, steering boxes etc.

To be honest, TTB/IFS sometimes even wheels better than Solid axle due to the better ground clearance and less apt to get hung up in the mud
