fan belt squeal

1995 Nissan pickup, kingcab, 4 cylinder (2.4L ) AUTOMATIC, AIR The fan belt squeals loudly on cold or wet days. Have changed belt once ,and tightened several times. Appears to be ac belt ( lowest belt on drivers side) Also sprayed with fan belt conditioner / squeal stopper to no avail

could this be something mechanical? Idler, alternator?
Again , it only happens on cold days or wet days

i would say that you probably have a pully starting to sieze up

I have the same thing happen on my 89 F-150 but with a serpentine belt. I've tried the Belt Dressing and it worked as long as I stayed spraying it. Once the outside temp warms up and the air dries out the belt is fine. I changed the belt and it didn't squeal for about a week and then it started all over again. A friend told me to take a piece of 180 grit sand paper and scuff the pullies. It's been too cold here and I've been a little too busy lately so I haven't given that a shot yet. Some parts store also carry a little kit that comes with three pieces of self adhereing sand paper about 2 inches long that you wrap around your belt and I've been told that they work as well. If you figure it out, let me know that is if it isn't something starting to seize up on you.

I changed all of the fan belts today, I have avoided this task because I thought it would be difficult and i could not see how to loosen all of them. As it turned out , it was pretty easy , there are two idler pulleys that have to be loosened and then it is no problem . The Alternator belt specified by Advance was the wrong one , too long , had to go back and get a shorter one in order to have adequate adjustment to tighten belt.
On start up , no squeal so far, but of course the weather has turned nice so I am not sure if the fix is complete . Will advise in a week or so if everything stays quiet.

01-11-08 Very rainy today, but no more squeal to date. I believe the problem all along was the alternator belt , changed 18 months ago. Advance Auto charts have a belt that is too long and leaves very little room for adjustment. After a little stretching , it gets loose and cannot be adjusted . The smaller belt I put on this time seems to do the trick

might try a different brand belt.

I have had best results with gates belts. I believe they are a top quality belt. If you have tried everything else,

you could have a pump, ac unit, etc: that is pulling excess drag, about to sez on you.
will creat belt slip when moisture gets on belt.

also try cleaning pulley, could be some type film on pulley belt surface.
