1997 Nissan SE 4x4 rough running motor Hello everyone and am I glad I found this forum! I have a 1997 Nissan SE 4x4 extended cab pickup with the 2.4 liter 4 cylinder EFI motor. Here is the problem I am having. Very rough idle and running situation. Acts like there is a consant misfire, rev the motor to 3500 and hold the accel pedal there and the rpm's drop off to nothing, move the pedal a bit and rpms build back up but it is rough running. I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor and distributor cap. I have spray cleaned the inside of the throttle body as well. Truck has apprx 112K on it, motor was rebuilt about 18K back (new timing belt/gears installed at that time) so all the injectors, sensors are original equipment. Check engine light is on. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Any Luck? I'm having the exact same problem with my 94 model. I have about 150K miles on the beast, but it has been a great truck till this problem started. I've changed-out the fuel temperature sensor, the fuel pump, and am in the process of replacing the O2 sensor. The fuel pump tested good and I don't think there is any vacuum leak. No "Check Engine Light" so I am just guessing at this time. The problem shows-up pretty much all the time, but is worse during cold weather. If you have any luck please post the results here. Good Luck

Well found out the problem. First off, the codes from the ECU said that #2 fuel injector was faulty plus the O2 sensor was bad. Replaced the injector and both O2 sensors (1 located on the exhaust manifold and the other one behind the catylitic convertor). Now for the bad news.... Still had the miss/rough running problem, so we checked the compression on #2 cylinder and it was dead..no compression..checked #3 cyl and comp was very low...#'s1 and 4 were ok. No water in the oil and motor never overheated, but yep you guessed it...blown head gasket between #2 & 3 cylinder walls. Soooo 1483 dollars later hopefully will fix it. If anything else transpires I'll post the outcome.
