Not too sure what you are refering to, "center spacer"???? What is that? How far have you shoved the axle Into the carrier? Many times when the C-clip does not want to fit, the axle is just not pushed in far enough.

the center spacer is what the driver gear slides over, the end of the axle shaft, it wants to fit, it is only a hair away from fitting. this hole project has been testing my last nerve for 2 months now im ready to trash the whole thing.

What style locker are you using? Are you using a "lunch box" locker, or have you upgraded to something like Detroits "C" locker? They both still utilize side gears to make the connection with each axle, and once is a while the axle needs a little help to obtain the proper clearance. As I mentioned above, it is entirely possible that the axle is not in far enough. Did you replace the axle bearings at all during this upgrade? Is it possible that the bearing was not installed all the way into the axle tube? Difficult to tell if the seal is on there, but if they have been changed and are new, you may find your trouble here. There should be plenty of room to install, and remove the "C-clip" once everything is correct.

i put a master bearing and seal kit in the axle, everything is as snug as it can be, im putting in a lock right locker, had a price range to stay in, i try pushing the axle in as far as i can get it but still not enough room. was wondering if i could shave off a hair of the axle or spacer to make it fit.

I have to admit that I have done this a timeor two, but I was very aprehensive about this. Never should there be a requirement for this, as the mahining tolerances are pretty good, and there has to be something installed incorrectly, or something that is not right. At first glance, I would suspect that the thrust washers behind the side gears are too think, and if you shave down the c-clip, you will get a locker with very odd engagement behavior. The install instructions were very specific about this. IS it possible that there is something out of spec here?

acutally the washers are the smame ones that came out of it, so if anything they should be worn down and be to thin than to thick. i took the axle completely out of the houseing and tried to fit the center spacer over the axle with nothing in my way just to see if it would fit in the first place and still nothing. ready to put the spider gears back in it and weld the SOB!!
