4X4 Laws and limits

In response to another post on another site, I have been trying to find a usable link or good source for state laws and limitations for what we are and are not allowed to do to our trucks.

If anyone knows a solid link to a site that would answer some questions it would be appreciated. Might help some folks here too. Each state is different, and each state enforces different rules. And some states are extremely lax while others are beyond strict... know what I mean?

Anyways, if anyone knows where I can find this information, please let me know.

might try the local DOT office. also, each inspection station is issues a book from the state declaring what you are or are not allowed to have on your vehicle. it is a big book so may want to have a little time to read and look over it. that is, if they will let you.

They will have all the information on PA, but what about the other 49 states? I was trying to put together a list of do's and don't's nationwide. Like which states aloow what for max bumper or headlight hight for those interested in lifting, or min ground clearence for those interested in lowering, what size tires will and will not pass, and things of that nature. Some states have a 1 inch rule for how far outside the body a tire is allowed, others have a zero tolerance. And so on.

I think it could be helpful for many people if there was either a website directly for these concerns, or if someone sat down and created a chart and a list and posted it on a public forum like these. Kind of what I was getting at doing.

I will try the Deptartment of Transportations website again later, I was on there earlier 03 and actually did not find the answers I was looking for. But I may have not been looking hard enough.
