cant recommend any particular truck but the windsor engine is a good dependable engine. auto places normally have lots of replacement parts and performance stuff. if you want something to move firewood around in, it will get you there.

I say no to that option. For beater truck of this era, that TTB front end is not so good. Too many moving parts, and since the camber is changing all of the time, these are hard on front tires. Upgrades, and lifts are still expensive, and these had a very undersireable semi float rear axle.
Yup, this is probably not the truck that can take the most abuse from these years.
Now this same truck as an F350 is an awesome choice, and you would be hard pressed to break it.
This comes with a straight axle D60 front axle, and a full float rear axle. Both very strong, and will probably not break, even in stock form. The aftermarket has a ton of support for this combo, and can be pretty bullet proof.
Yup, this era F350 is hard to beat!

Look Pete, just because you have an obsession with fords, does not mean they are the answer to everything. If you actually took the time to read the whole thread, you would see he is infact considering a Ford, but for what he is looking to do, he has to look for certain things...and the truck he was loking at would have possibly added to a headache down the road... And I know it is not as simple as black and white, but that grey area is where we all live....

And OP, for what I understand, and what youi are looking to accomplish here, I think the Dodge would be the better choice. not that I am doubting the ability of the Chevy to handle a beating, I just think the drive train on that year Dodge was very strong... JMO< but I think for you, the 1994 Dodge 2500 is a decent choice.

Dodge is a very tough truck in that era, I'm a ford guy, we have a '98 ranger and a '92 f-250 diesel. The 1992 year is a very strong truck for ford and dodge alike. I think chevy lost alot of there beef around the late 80's. If I were you I would go with Dodge or Ford in that year. Remember one thing, if you get a diesel, the '94 year and after has the powerstroke. The '93 and below just has 7.3 L.

The F250 stopped using the solid front axle on favor of a D44 TTB in 1980, and continued to use this right up until the 97 model year.
This twin traction beam was upgraded to a D50TTB in the later years, and this was quite simply a D44 center section, and D60 outers, but did have dinky axle shafts.
These were leaf sprung design with a shackle foward configuration.
The F350 truck was the only Ford truck axailable with a solid front dana 60 axle.
This axle remained a king pin axle until 91, and then evolved into the ball joint axle.
The current model F250 and 350 Super duty trucks use a ball joint solid front axle, and the TTB is a thing of the past.
In 99 when the SD was introduced it was available with a D50 only (SRW trucks only) and a 10.5" rear axle (Visteon / Sterling).
This was again upgraded in 2002 to a D60, and once again the D50 is almost a thing of the past. I say almost because all of the Excursions had the D50.
Currently all 4x4 SD trucks are using D60 front axles.

I would be interested to see any 80 to 97 F250 truck that had a solid front axle.
I would be willing to bet a nice cold beer on this one.......

Have not made a firendly wager in a while, lol.

LOL.... You know it is an easy mistake to make for an unrained eye. The TTB axle on the front of those trucks look just like a solid axle... I have made that mistake myself sveral times until I was told otherwise. But if you get under and actually take a look, you can see the differences. Especially behind the axle as opposed to in front. Now it may be entirely possible thta someone would have swaped it out for a solid axle at one point in time... So to add to 75K30's little wager here, you may want to add... "I would be interested to see any 80 to 97 F250 truck that had a solid front axle."..."stock"... LOL.... But you know, I could use a cold beer myself, so I will have to second his....LOL....

O yes, the Commanche..... very rare. I wish they have never stopped making them though. LOL... mostly late 80's if I remember correctly. I think they only made them for like two years.
