| On the heavy haulers around here some have four rear drive axles. Some have as many as three steering boxes. The fourth axle is a steer axle that moves with the front. They have a long shaft that runs the length of the frame to another gear box at the rear. That in turn delivers power to the steering components at the rear. Give me a few and I can make a quick diagram. |

| I apologize for the crude visual. I only had basic shapes to work with. |

| I have created double mechanical steering systems with limited success. I have used split gear boxes (transmissions) to accomplish this, and have found them to be weak. Well, let me re-phrase that. The mechanical boxes themselves are very strong, but the center links, and rod ends were the weak points. By design the "toe" is always changing during suspension cycles, and this "toe" change is exadurated while torque is being applied to the wheels. This places quite of force on the steering components, and keeping the steering properly aligned is a real bear. The more torque one places on the axles, the more the tires try to point towards each other, and this tries to push everything up. Real hard on components, and since these gear ratios will be very low, and the tires will be super huge, combined with some mega torque from the engine, I can see some issues here. I do know that you are not exactly re-creating the wheel here, and there are existing systems already being used, I just feel that this will still be a decent amount of work to get right. The wheelbase wil have a big effect on the amount that the rear should steer, and keeping proper ackram angles will get real interesting. You will have your work cut out for you, but sounds as though you have your facts straight, and you have a handle on it. |

| This is somehting I am not jumping into. I have been studying these systems and planning tweaks here and there. Being since all I can do is plan right now, I am paying attention to every detail. The work will be fun though when I can actually begin. If you are not too far from GA you should come by and see how it turns out. |

| We will have to rely on this site to keep track on your build. I reside in So. Ca. and you are a little more than a couple of miles away, lol. Most of us will be very interested in seeing this come to life. |

| Well if my source for the running ear holds true, I should have a complete set before I go home in 2010. By then I hope to have made up my mind of the engine selection. |

| Well this was not a surprise. “Mr. Moore, Im sorry, but we are un-able to provide technical data per your request as the M1117 ASV is an ITAR controlled item. Regards, Jim McConnell Spares Manager, Lifecycle Support Textron Marine and Land Operations” I just wanted to know where I can buy a set of running gear. I never asked for any data or specifics on the ASV itself. I understand the concern about releasing information that could lead some one to discovering weaknesses, and the multitude of other complications. But the running gear information is on the internet. I just need a point to the direction I have to go in order to buy a set. I even stated in my request that it does not have to be the same as the ASV (that stuff is very heavy) I just want to know who sells it. |

| I have been kicking around some ideas about how the sub frame will mount to the truck frame. This is a very rough unfinished mock up. But it gets the idea across. Shoot me some suggestions.

| Well the prick will not get back in touch with me. So I got to thinking, I bet I can build my own ISAS. Dana Spicer offers HD independent differentials; I will just have to build everything else. Then the height will not be an issue because I can build to suite. Dana Corporation - Off-Highway Solutions - Products
