Cherokee & Grand Cherokee My older brother is looking at buying a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. Now I know a lot about the 4.0 straight sixes in these trucks, but that is where my knowledge of these trucks ends. So I need some help. We are going to check a few different ones out and is there any specific things I should check? I am going to check out the usual stuff but just curious if there are any common issues or concerns with these trucks. Thanks! ![]()

I owned a 00 Cherokee 4.0 4 door for well... 8 years. Just got rid of it with over 200k on it. NEVER let me down. Had a few dumb things go wrong, like the front wheel U joints, but **** neither of them went before 130k. The exhaust rotted off, but that's expected, it's NY and they put exactly 47 million tons of salt on every mile of roadway. I'd still be driving that thing if it weren't for the absolute need of a truck. Oh and I was never nice to it either. I drove it like I stole it, probably because it was a blast to drive. Quick as a rabbit out of a hole too, especially after the K&N cold air kit and the Flowmaster cat-back exhaust. **** of a vehicle. I can probably answer anything you want to know about it too, just give me a shout. Eric

Ok... well, the only thing I ever heard of being a "common" problem with the Cherokee was the trans. There were several different aod's that were used and I'm almost 100% positive the A340F was the troublesome one. But like I told you, I beat the tar out of mine, which coincidentally had the A340F in it, and I never saw a problem except for it feeling a little sloppy toward the end. Hope that was more what you were looking for. Check out some Jeep forums or do a little research if you're that serious about this. There's tons of info available.
