Sounds like it has all the undesirables in it Erwin. Just because its not the best and the more desired stuff, you can still clean it up, make it a safe sound vehicle. If you got a good solid body to start with and its a complete vehicle, $600 is a good deal. I am not even a Ford guy, and for $600 I'd be all over it. You are right about the 351M. Its even moe boat anchor than Chev 305.

Well I told my grandmother I bought it and she is like, "you bought another peice of junk?". I told her I haven't bought no other truck than my 1999 Ford Ranger. I told her it was acting up because it needs a new alternator. She said, "Instead of gettining two trucks, that I should have gotten one with 4wd. I told her if I did that and gas prices go up, the 4wd will suck alot of gas, so that's why I kept my 4 CYLINDER RANGER AND GOT THE 1979 FORD F150 4X4.Then I went to go test out the 4x4 in water (that came up to the bumper-haha) and it was doing freakin awesome! Then the battery went dead. Charged the battery up. I have to crank it by a push button and ignition switch. I cranked it up, and we had to get the carb going. Got it going, but then I heard a noise. OH NO, the starter was still going. The push button got stuck. The starter was grinding for I say about 40sec-1 min.

I got the push button loose and it stopped, gave the truck the gas....came out of the hole. Then it went dead on me. It wasn't the battery. It kept making a clicking noise and some weird noise. We beat the starter. THE STARTER WAS A NEW 351 STARTER. Tried to crank it up again...click. My brother tried to tighten up everything. Click. Nothing. The solinode was hot, and I think it is that. What do yall think?

I don't know what could. Nothing was in the water but water could splashed in and got something but nothing is really electrical on it much.

Should I have gotten this truck and kept my ford ranger 4 cylinder or just got one whole truck?

And what do grandmas know except how to make awesome pie??? Just gotta play along and take the beech session and be respectful. My grandma is worse than yours, but now, may she RIP. I sure remember some of those sessions I had with her when younger. Telling me clutches don't wear out. If I didn't ride the clutch it would not have gone out. Hahahaha. I normally only use a clutch to start and stop, sure not riding it. And she never ever rode in my truck to know how I drove. And get this, she never ever drove in her life. But she gonna tell me what I did wrong to my truck and clutches don't wear out. That was a 64 3/4 ton and had a gazillion miles on it, and I know for a fact it had at least 189,000 miles on it. NO telling how many miles were on it before my friend bought it, then I bought it from him. Only thing I did was take out the granny 4 speed and put a Close Ratio M21. Same clutch.

You did keep your ranger too right? I would have, but that me. I only have a 3 trucks and a car and want another truck, so I am probably a bit ridiculous. You also sound young, so an extra vehicle to insure might hurt too. In my case, my second vehicle drops the insurance on my full coverage daily driver, with multi car discount, so my 2nd vehicle to insure is actually free. The others I do not drive much yet since they are projects, so I only insure them as needed calling my agent to add and drop all the time.

Yeah, I'm 18. I work at a grocery store. Make $90-130 a week. Fixing to graduate and go to tech school though. I have the 1999 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder 5 speed still. The insurance is like $40 on it a month.
How much would insurance be on this 1979 Ford F150 4X4 a month?

I also have a 1978 Ford Courier 4x4 but it's a project truck that doesn't run fully yet.

i remember having one vehicle at a time. been a long time ago as i like having backup vehicles on my backup vehicles. erwin, you should feel lucky that your insurance is so cheap. around here, your age, it would run about 120 a month for basic liability. that is with no strikes against you. mine runs about that right now for 2 people and full coverage with low deductable on 2 vehicles, one of them being less than 2 years old.

Just liability on the 79 should not be that bad, but no idea. I'd keep your daily 99 Ranger driver. $40 month for an 18yo male is cheap. You are obviously on your parents policy. I'd let the 78 Courier project set and work that 79 full size truck 4x4. Member 75 is into those and hes a good guy, as long as you don't need to borrow his truck, dog or his tools. I am sure he will be the one you want to do some brain picking on.

I love my trucks though. The f150 is so sick. It didn't even open up the 4 barrel yet. The steering is too loose but man. I can't wait to fix it up. My brother even wants to buy it.
