1979 Ford F150 4x4 I found one that one of my kin folks will sell to me for $700. It has a 351 (IDK if it is a windsor, cleveland or mod.) in it from what he says. It doesn't have a truck bed, one of the brakes doesn't work, needs an alternator, heater doesn't work. That's all I know about it. It runs cause he was driving it one day (cause I had to go jump him off). What I don't like about it is that it's an automatic. What is better? Manual or automatic? If I get it, I might change it to a manual later on. If I do, what do I have to change? I know I have to change the 4x4 thing to another place but what else? Would it be worth it? Should I get it?

Your 79 F one fitty will have a 351M and a C6 transmission. Yours should also have a 205 transfer case, and should also have a high pinion dana 44 front axle with a 31 spline 9 inch rear axle. This truck came in long bed and short bed configurations, while the shortbeds are more popular, the long beds still bring decent money. Any bed, either 2wd or 4wd will fit provided that you do not find a 4wd bed from 73 to 77 F250. These frames were narrower than the 2wd's and 4wd's after 77.5 These beds are not that expensive, but these trucks have become the rage lately, and are really demanding some bucks. I have been selling beds for around 350 bucks and can get as much as 500 for them. Anyway, you will not be disapointed with the C6 automatic transmission, and trying to chane this to a stick shift will require a complete pedal assembly and all of the hardware associated with the linkage and so forth. This is a pain in the neck swap, and takes quite a bit of time. Fortunately the crossmembers are similar, and your transmission to transfer case adapter will still work. SInce you already have the long adapter this will work out just about perfect for your application. Now, since the transmissions are a different length you will have to make new driveshafts. This can get expensive, and since you only paid 700 bucks for the entire truck, this swap will probably cost more than the entire purchase of the truck. These are still good trucks, and for what it is worth, the 385 series engine, has the same bellhousing pattern as the 335 series 351M and 400, so a 429 or 460 upgrade is a snap.

I went to go look at it better. Needs a little bit of body work. Windsheild has a huge crack, rust with some holes, dents. The engine looks ok. Needs an oil change. It has a edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor. When I get my computer back, I'll send pictures. I will test drive it tomorrow maybe.

Strong recovery points are a must. When I play, I play hard and when they get stuck, they are stuck pretty bad. Big trucks get heavy when they are stuck in the sticky mud. Cleaning them after a sunday of mud is always fun......

| The square grill is my favorite as well. But for a stock daily driver, I think the split grill looks better.

Well I looked at the 4x4 underneath. The back axle, where to shaft goes in...looks like the outside metal peice broke off. I don't know if it hurt the 4x4 but they said the 4x4 goes in. We tried to crank it but the battery was dead or the battery was to small to turn it over. I might offer $500 for it. It needs alot of work but not that bad. Needs an alternator though and some of the wiring needs to be fixed.... Wish it had granny low in it. I guess it will be fine without it. I got a question...Are those trucks legal to drive on the highway that yall have? They seem pretty big but I also see some big ones down here...
