Hey guys, i'm new so bare me with. I just purchased an 1989 silverado 4x4 with a 3" body lift. Problem is it goes into 4lo great but not 4hi? could this be linkage, or is this model/series truck prone to a bigger problem?

It could be the linkage. You have to usually make yer linkage longer when you get lifts.

Welcome to the forum
linkage is a good place to start! disconnect the linkage to the lever and see if you can do it from underneath. remember to block the wheels so it doesn't roll!!

Thanks guys, all seem to be good starting places. I don't have it in nuetral, but shouldn't have to with shift on the fly right? I've owned several of these trucks over the years, but none with a lift. Purchased it to hunt in.

Yes, but i cant get to the wire cable to pull it out and adjust the linkage. Also, it shifts really hard from 2 to 4hi. It will fall into N and 4-lo with no problems???

You still have to check the linkage. It may be the main problem. It could be too short and it won't let it go in and shift right. Check it or carry it to a mechanic. That's all I know bud.
