Jeep Cherokee CODE

Got a code of 1698 showing up - garage says the computer HAS to be REPLACED and the Jeep is junk. It seems to running fine - what do we do

did they clear the code? and is the light off? if not disconnect the battery for 10mins, and then drive it to allow it to relearn, and see if the light comes back on

from a quick google search, it sounds like you have a communication bus problem. could be a simple wiring problem.

The light is not working at all - the Jeep was just sold and the buyer had a shop put it a machine and this was the only code that showed up. What does this code effect and does it really have to be replaced. I will have them disconnect the battery and try that also. One of the replies gave me a link for codes and it said No CCD mesages received from the PCM - What does this mean

have no idea what ccd stands for but computers rarely go bad and need replacing. i would look at the wiring. what year is it? newer vehicles use a CAN (controller area network) to help the computers to communicate with each other. if an aftermarket device was/is installed, it could be sending a false signal through the CAN line. look for an aftermarket radio or remote starter and i bet you will find your problem.

If it is at a shop it should be on a scanner and not a code reader, so they should clear the code and see if it returns after a few drive cycles. I find it strange the truck is running and they say the computer is bad

did you sell the truck and someone is playing games?

I want to kind of to agree with the last reply - I think that the buyer is screwing around with my brother - and there is an aftermarket radio - additionally it was I think a Park ranger vehicle that lites and radio in it.

Did your brother give a receipt stating as is where is?? sounds like a buyer having second thoughts

Yes we did do a bill of sale that we pulled online and we did make sure that it said AS IS - mainly because the Jeep has like 214K - and anyone should know that anything could go wrong. The only bad thing about it is that my wife put it on her bulletin board at her work and some one in the complex bought it (Should have known better)
