| Noise when engaging 4Lo? So I find now that I have my first 4X4 truck, it is a 1996 K2500 4L80E tranny, with the three push buttons on the dash to put it into 2Hi or of course 4Hi or 4Lo, anyway I would say when doing it like I do, which is sitting still in neutral that between 2hi and 4hi it is fairly quiet when putting it back into gear from neutral, but when I push 4Lo and then put it into gear it seems to clunk I guess you would call it, and most definetly seems to want to go, lots of torque it feels like, is this normal that it is engaging a little harsher than the other two settings? |

| depends on how loud the clunk is i guess. never owned push button and don't ever plan to either.

| normal, mine is push button, even engageing while slowly moving (into high) there is a clunk, wouldn`t worry about it untill the chain skips or a really bad bearing noise while moving, or indication of metal during oil flush.... good to go.

| Thanks for the responses, now that leads to another question, I was told by the salesman I can shift on the fly from 2hi to 4hi or back, but need to be stopped and in neutral to engage 4 lo, is this right? I never got a manual for it, and want to find one, but untill then maybe I can get most answers here on how to use the four wheel drive system. |

| It shouldn't be a problem. I had a 93 Jimmy with push button 4wd that made the same noise. I even changed the actuator motor after it went out & both motors made the same noise. If you're still worried, changing the fluid might help. |

| Normal... no need to be alarmed. It's the synchros engaging and the output shaft drive drum sudden increase in RPM... |
