partsman is on a distinguished road
running in four wheel once in awhile

I should have asked, on that 1996 GMC 4X4 I picked up with the 4L80E tranny, should I be running it a bit in four wheel?

My dad had an old 1974 F250 4X4 and I remember it was a style that needed to be run once and awhile in four wheel to keep things lubed I guess, so on off roads, he would lock the hubs in for a bit.
Is it needed on these newer style systems?

hmm. someone might be able to answer better, but I still lock mine in 4wd every so often to make sure everything still works (actuator, vacuum hubs etc...) Don't see what it would hurt.

+1.

Just dont drive very far in 4X4, especially through corners. You can wear out tires that way.

I did on my Avalanche and Z71 Pick up. As suggested, not long and not thru the turns, so I usually did it on rainy days at a time where I knew I was going straight for quite a ways, like 2 or 3 miles. I had heard that same thing and figured it could not hurt, plus it allowed a test to know it was all working properly.
