how big lift and tires for my dodge? My dad just gave me his old dodge 318 with the granny gear. I'm going to use it for mud only no road use. How big of tires can I go with before I start to really go too big for the torque I have? And how big of a lift should I put on it to clear the tires? I can cut the fenders if needed. Also what are some mods I can do to the motor to give it a little more pep? Last edited by kodie; 06-21-2009 at 07:03 PM.

oh, if you are willing to drop some money into, throw a locker in the front, a spool in the rear, and the lowest gears you can find.......... Im talking LOW gearing........ If you can get low enough gearing, the torque of the 318 can spin 44 inch boggers.......... My buddy has a 305 in a chevy that is spinning 44 inch boggers, but he also is running 7.28(I believe) gears front and rear, he upgraded axles to d60 front 14 bolt rear though, to handle tires size........... as for the lift size, in the mud, the biggest tire you can keep spinning, the better......... up to a point..... don't go crazy on size............ Personally, I'd go with a 10" lift and 38's maybe 40's....... if you are willing to trim the fenders, then go with what lift you can afford, and trim the fenders to fit the tires.......

so how low should I go? on the gears? And should I get some bigger axles as well? I want to make a nice mudder that isn't going to brake on the first hole.

Well, I'm doing basically the same thing right now. I'm lifting my truck around a foot, going to 40 inch Super Swamper Boggers, and regearing to probably 5.38. You might want to go to 5.71 though. But a foot of lift with a little cutting should make it able handle the 40's and you'll have a nice truck. Post pics man and keep us updated.
