Cause of destroyed rear differential

My truck is a 2004 Dodge 1500 4x4. At 22000 miles I went to an oil change center and had them change the oil in the rear limited slip differential. The specs call for synthetic gear lube 75W-140 with the limited slip additive but the oil change center put in GL5 gear oil 80/90 and no additive. At 26000 I heard noise coming from the rear end so I took it to a garage to be checked. The mechanic said the limited slip clutches
broke up, forced the pins out of the housing, ground up everything inside the differential and scored the axle housing. The axle shafts are still usable but everything else has to be replaced. He and a second mechanic say the lack of the limited slip additive caused the clutches to chatter, break apart and destroy the differential. Is that the most likely cause of the problem or is there some other cause?

The good news is the oil change center admitted their mistake and paid for the repairs.
