400 and 351 are same block if im not mistaken...i dont think you can bolt up a 400...i KNOW you can drop a 302 in there and bolt it up though cause thats what i did with an '87 f-150

400ci and trannies

read through the thread. think there is something of interest there at the 3rd post when it comes to ford blocks and trannies.

Ask yourself this... "How bad is it gonna hurt if it lets go?" If you're okay with the damage that can happen if the tire blows, then go for it. But... and this is a BIG but... that only applies for off-road. For on-road a whole different set of criteria apply, because then you're risking not only your own neck, but the neck of the poor schmuck you're liable to crash into. And, if it later comes out that you knowingly drove with a cut tire you could be looking at criminal negligence charges.

Tires should usually be bought in pairs and used on the same axle.

What he^^ said....... for most vehicle manufacturers (I know GM and ford), and , the recommended tire tread difference is 2% side to side, 4% front to back. so if your new tires start with 18/32nds then you dont want anything more than a 2% difference in tread depth (or tire size) on the same axle..... you don't want anything more than 4% from the front axle to the back..... I guess they are saying this, as a guide to what the transfercase can handle in the differences before you start to do damage......
