Pick up the 4x4 rusted cab. Drag it out the way and then put the donor truck cab on.

You have to see the big picture just as Bernie pointed out with your idea of hoisting the cab. plus, what leaf springs will you be removing? The fornt end of a 79 Ford F150 4x4 is coil sprung.

The rear leaf spring. It's thicker than that of the 2wd.

Your probably right. I just thought it would be simple with the way I was talking about than tearing the engine out because I don't feel like hooking the brake booster and everything in the 2wd compartment.

started all those batched body swaps in the first place. There is always much more to a body swap than you think. Now, I swap out the drive train components unless it is a ground up restoration or from scratch build.
Here is an example:
The Dana 60 swap as begun

Yes, I did buy a lot of stuff. But I could have easily done this with parts strictly from the donor truck.

Well the 2wd frame won't be tough like the 4wd frame.

Why is that? What are the major differences?

Are you sure about that? I know that Dodge used to use heavier frames for their 4x4 Dakota's, but I'm not aware that Ford did that. Not saying they didn't, just that I have no info one way or the other.

That is the point I was making. When I did all those half ton conversions I did not notice any differemces. Where I use to live, it was eiser to find peices to a Ford 4x4 that an than an affordable complete one.

I would personally swap the drivetrain instead of taking apart two trucks. half of your work is already with the two wheel drive. Be smart save yourself some work. Everything should bolt up. the other thing is are both trucks auto. or man. trans.? or are they different from each other?

Both automatic.

It's just where the transfer case is, it's bolted on this plate which the plate is bolted to the frame. Plus. I don't feel like taking out the brake boothers and unhooking everything. That would be aggervating.
