| Don't even need to paint it. The head gasket will cover it up. You think its even worth JB Weld? I was thinking more like Wrigleys Spearmint. If I could find a standard 302 block, I would probably bore it .020 over, new rings, bearings, gaskets and oil pump and have a brand new reman 302. Not sure what I'd with it. Like I said, I don't keep this breed of vehicle parts around. My 93 Box Van with the 460 and biggo OD trans work perfect, and I have no intention of changing a thing on that truck, so I do not need F O R D parts for anything other than scrap metal. Of course I am not trashing (since I can't say scrap ping) perfectly good parts in any breed. Its against my beliefs.

| I think I found a 460. A guy that works with my brother has one that was in his old Ford racing truck. He said it needs a little work but he is going to fix it so if I get it, I won't come back and tell him I bought a POS from him. He said it wasn't nothing major. He said he may sell it to me for $600 or $800. Then my brother told me that he heard that the 460s don't even last long. WTF? Now I got an email from some guy saying: I've got 2 460s that I'm wanting to get rid of. One is a marine motor that has 100 hours on it...which is equivalent to 2000 miles. The other is a newly rebuilt 600hp 460. I'd take $400 for the 1st one and $2000 for the 2nd. Email me back and i'll give you more details on either one. Will a marine motor work in my truck? |

| I dunno about 460 lasting long. I have one in my box van. 167,000 miles and going strong like brand new. Granted it was governed at 65mph its first 140,000, but I can assure I have worked and worked it hard. Doing 90+ mph uphill loaded pulling a 16ft tandem trailer of ATV's. NO smoke, never uses oil, no knocks, idles and runs smooth as glass no hiccups. I can say this, I think $600 or $800 is certainly to much for a used motor, especially since it needs "some" work. And if its a race motor, then its been worked very hard. If the guy is telling the truth on the marine motor for $400, that is your better deal. I would want a guarentee on it though of some sort. Only for cracks. Be sure to start the thing up BEFORE you buy it, let it run to operating temp with water in it. Make sure it does not overheat, then pull the dipstick and check the oil to make sure its not got water in it. Also take a compression guage with you, make sure all cylinders are within close tolerance of each other. Many times those marine motor deals that are to good to be true, are to good to be true. Someone left water in it for a winter. I have seen it bunches of times, and I have to happen to have a 302 right now that was a marine motor and its cracked. Not sure if it was this thread or another, I posted pics of it.

| So a marine motor can go in my truck? How much HP these things have? I didn't know that. Thought something would be different about it. So I can put my carb on it and stuff? |

| Usually what normally differant is going to be outside the block and heads. The intake and exhaust manifolds will be differant, water pump, oil pan will be differant etc. Otherwise should be the same block and heads.

| huh? Get you an edelbrock intake, headers, water pump and oil pump and run it. Are you looking for a turn key bolt in and go motor? If so, you are right. Punt on the marine motor.

Lol. I like ya man. I got an edelbrock intake. So I have to get a 460 water pump and oil pump (made for my truck 460)? Do I have to have headers right away? Lol. | |

| You will have to have some kind of exhaust right away. I just figured headers would be a cheaper, easier, quicker way out and offer some extra performance.
