converting a 4x2 to a 4x4

What's up everyone. New to the thread so i'll get this outta the way.

My question is, well first let me tell you what i got. I have a 2002 Ford F-350 Crew Cab dually with the 7.3L powerstroke and the 6 speed. Ok now to my question. I'm thinking about turning into a 4 wheel drive and would like some opinions, good idea, bad idea, too hard, not possible etc....

and if anyone has done it, or knows someone that has, has a link to somehwere etc... pleas let me know

Thanks

its kinda "ify".....i was gonna do that to my 2wd chevy p/u....but when i realized how much time it is, how much money it is, and not to mention that its tedious.....its easier to find a wrecked truck like yours but in 4wd, take that chassis and put your body on that one.....but thats just my opinion...im sure someone else would disagree wit me....good luck

it is a much better idea to just trade in on a 4x4. you have to have a donor truck, which being that new is not gonna be cheap even for a wrecked one. then you have to do all the work to it or you can send it to a shop and be charged out the butt in labor. if you can find a cheap donor, then cambo's idea is good too. i would go with either of these two suggestions unless you have a LOT of time and just want to do the project.

Well, my first impression is to trade your truck in for a 4x4, or like Cambo said find a donor truck. However, it will cost you more to do a 4x4 conversion than to trade in your truck for a 4x4. I don't know if you have any emotional attatchment to your truck, but seriously, you're looking at probably a ballpark figure of a donor for $6500 if not more, and the work and extra parts are endless.

good luck hope you figure out what you're gonna do!!!!

390FE will become famous soon enough
I'm gonna vote for the trade in. Search and maybe drive a few hours fo the car. My girl just drove about 2.5hrs to find the car she was lookign for and when we got there she was supprised and it was actually a better car(bigger motor and more options) for the same price.

Doing a 4x4 swap on even a 70's or 80's truck is difficult because the frames are usually differant between the 2. With a newer computer controlled truck you will be basicly dealing with completly striping down 2 trucks and rebuilding the 4x4 chasis. 3 or 4 months searching for a 4x4 would probably be quicker also. The days of just swaping axles and trannies are long gone.

I concurr. Although 6500 is way out there. I could do it for less than half that. If this is your DD, then trade it in.
