From what Ive heard I dont think its overly easy...nor cheap. I cant give you specifics as I dont know anyone who's done it.

Why not just buy a 4x4 in the first place or trade up? I think in the long run it would be easier and cheaper.

Yeah, thats why I stopped thinking about it. We always have a hundred 4x4 on sale around here and for good prices. Still curious to see how much or how hard it is to do though.

I just typed in "2x4 to 4x4 conversion" on yahoo search...it pulled up a bunch of topics on forums and such. I cant post the links here for you obviously but I suggest you try it yourself.
They're basically saying alot of what I said... its cheaper to buy a 4x4 lol. Theres a bunch of variations listed between 2x4 and 4x4's which is why it makes it difficult.

well, i've already got a 93 jimmy, with a good motor, but the car is way beat up. and the tranny is shot, so we're gonna have to replace or rebuild that. i mena, it's beat up so bad, trade in will be worthless and not get us enough in return to buy a 4x4, so we just wanted to convert it to 4x4 and use as a trail beast since it wont matter if it gets beat up.... and we aint got enough to go buy a 4x4

Its not real hard, but it can get expensive. i did a little s10 truck for a guy and i installed solid front axle. Used full size chevy axles. Not to hard, but does take alot of fabrication work and sone real good welding, the expensive part is in the transmaiision and transfer case swap and making new driveshafts.

Alot, of cuttin g and fabricating mounts and shackles. Not worth it. these little blazers are becoming a dime a dozen, just look around and find another one with a bad motor or something like that and pick it up for a few hundred bucks
