Talking feel free to talk about four wheelin'

Since the mods wont do it, I figured it would be nice to have a place to talk about 4 wheel drive trucks only. Share storys, pictures, whatever you want.

I would love to talk about 4wd stuff.
I guess my contributions thus far, and most of my PM's have been regarding the SAS.
Here are a few pics on how they turn out SAS on Late chevy trucks.
We could also talk about shackle flips, and twin sticks. Never even discussed it here. MAybe most are not as extreme as others, but I am sure this is not Greek to everyone.

twin stick is when you take a x-fer case like a NP205 or similar with seperate shift rails and make each shift rail sepeartely shiftable. That way you could just have a "2 wheel low" gear for the back or front while the other end is in nuetral. It is a good set up for hill climbing etc...

basically all it adds is the capability to put the front in 2 low and the rear in neutral? correct

Yes, you guys are very correct. It does allow for the independant use of low or high range for front or rear axles, as well as no output for either, and any combination. Heres one more for ya. I also run a doubler, which is a front "range box" section of a NP 203, with a NP 205 behind it. This gives me a very wide veriety of combos, for the ultimate in gear reduction.
Since I run a fullsize truck on very tight trails, I usually use the "twin-stick" to allow front wheel drive, and this helps me turn the truck in very tight situations. I can turn the front wheels, and stand on the throttle in front wheel drive, and get the truck to turn. Takes some practice, but is very usefull on the trail.

basically a double allows the gears to be reduced more than once correct?

Yeah, see the NP 205 is considered to be the strongest, and most desireable factory style t-case, it is limited by only having a 2:1 low range. This is kinda poor for off roading in rocks. While it is beneficial to use a granny stylr trans like 4500, it can be made much lower by adding a range box in front of the 205. This range box is simply the front half of the NP 203. This allows the use of the low range of the 203, and either the high, or low range of the 205, or even the other way around. It is not much lobger than a complete 203 transfer case, and brings a very bullet proof alternative to rock guys with fullsize trucks.
Really fun when a doubler is used with a twin stick 205. Good off road stuff there. Lots of gear combos and drive selections.
With two cases in low range, you can actually expect the engine to brake down steep hills even with an auto transmission. Cool stuff!

Many moons ago I thought going down a muddy road in my dad's 76 Scout in 4X4 so that no one would drive by meaning THE LAW wrong I got stuck the road made a sharp turn and I fell into a ditch when I got off after holding up the heavy door beacuse we were half way in the ditch to lock the front hubs all the scout did was travel more into the ditch we had to walk in the mudd over a mile to a sewer plant where this old man was sleeping nearly gave him a heart attack knocking at the door so when I called my brother he asking are you in your GTO I said no the scout well he came to save me in a truck with big tires and took me out well the bad thing of it noting happened between me and the girl but get muddy and I spent a lot of quarters washing the scout so that dad wouldn't find out what I was up too but in the morning my dad got up and mudd was dropped all over the drive way dead give away the things we do when were young. Lesson learned never forget that 4X4er's get stuck.
PS-After what happen I bought some Remington tires with nice wheels and boy did we ever have fun at South Padre Island we would go with just a tank of gas and make money pulling people out for beer or money this was back in the 70's when 4X4ing was just taking off and I was super young don't want to mention what age because we started soaking suds at a young age not wise my buddy never stopped and now has liver disease.
