timeserts

ok i watched the video on inserting timeserts and that is one of the problems i have ran into is not only the limited amount of space but i have to use or make a extention for every thing. but i will try them i'm going to go ahead and pull the trans tomorrow and see if that helps. I can't pull the motor or i would i'm sure it would make it alot easier to do it. but it will probably take to much time. I would take it to a repair shop but i'm in Arkansas and i will not have someone working on my truck that i don't know thanks for all your help guys i will post pictures soon

what is a time sert?

I've never seen em. It's looks similar to a heli coil.

They are similar.

I'm no mechanical engineer but to me a Helicoil is a spring while a Timesert is a threaded tube with threads on both the inside and outside.
Timesert:

Probably a good simple descirption would be a heli is a spring that gets compressed to the hole,
while the timesert is a tube that acts like a molley or concrete anchor bolt
by permenantly expanding on installation at the deep end.
Same job/function but the timesert has better odds of surviving in low strength holes.
No I didn't scientifically test that, just my near-humble opinion.

Can you weld a bolt in the block and use lock washer and good lock nut to hold it in place Hilicoil is a good idea how about re-tapping to a slightly bigger size just buy the right replacment bolt same grade. Let us know what route you took.

heli-coil/timeserts

I'll start with the helicoil firstly helicoil does not make an insert longer than 3/4 of an inch so it will not work the starter bolts are 1 1/4 inch long so i can't use them. the only way i have been able to find time serts is online through their website and the pdf will not load so I'm going to retry extracting it. I dropped my trans and my v-drive to give my more room to work but it's raining today and when it broke i was in the middle of a mud field so the tow-truck couldn't get it up my steep driveway into my garage so it's on the street in front of my house. but i will start first thing tomorrow after it dries up abit outside and will let you guys know how it goes. thanks again for all your help guys

I have never had much luck with the helicoils. they don't like to stay put. I think your much better off with the timesert. I have used something similar with good results.

Scavanger.

finished

Several things have been going on with this crazy truck but I've finally finished. Firstly i broke off an extractor bit inside of the bolt, if you've ever heard about that happening it's as bad as it sounds. I'm not sure what they are made of but any drill bit you can buy will not drill them out or even put a dent in them. I got tired of playing with that so i decided to just make a custom fit mounting bracket because there is an extra unused hole closer to the flywheel and I'm wrapping up the last of it right now. i had to take out the trans & transfer & all the wonderful **** that is attached. I must add that this was my first time doing this and it almost drove me crazy.
