are 91 nissan pickups freespinning??

Hi,

Does anybody know if 91 nissan pickups are free spinning or not? my timing chain tensioner is broken and theres some other problems i gotta deal with. Reason i want to know is because i may have done some bad damage to the engine from driving it with no oil. A friend has informed me that if it is free-spinning theres a chance the damage could be minor.

anyway ...thats all i need to know at the moment. Free-spinning or not?
thnx

what is this free spinning you speak of.

no oil is bad, no matter what type of engine you have.
loose timing chain is just as bad, could seriously break something, it's not pretty when valves and pistons meet.

I do believe the mechanic is asking you if the engine struggles to spin / rotate, or whether or not it rotates slow, and even not at all.
This mechanic might be searching for information that would indicate that the chain has busted, or jumped. An engine that struggles to turn might have been damaged during the time it was run without the vital juice that lubricates everything, and a jumped chain might make the engine spin rather easy, and it could even make it turn a little slow. A broken chain could allow the engine to spin "free" without any indication of compression at all.
I really feel that the mechanic is searching for some information to troubleshoot, and not asking if the said engine has some magic, or special option.
That term "free spinning", is not really a term that might be used to explain or describe any type of option.
Best guess....... thats all I got, lol.

I suspect Timing Chain broke, if it is free spinning when you try and crank it, then it's broke.
