I was an English major in University. I'm Canadian so I have been brought up speaking proper English. I really didn't learn alot of Slang until I went online (for me, that was BBS's and late 80's). I learned L337 SP34K through the World Wide Web.

I'm not a programmer, or a hacker. I am a technophreak, and a technician by trade, but I had been in that industry for more than 20 years, and it got "phreaking" boring.. So I am where I am now, and for now I am happy..

Ahh!, so you probably remember when almost all the BBS's were run by McGraw-Hill.
My first OS after getting away from the front panel switches was CPM,
and getting online meant dialing up and placing the phone in my Bell 110 acoustic.
I still have the first computer I built (in a pine box), kept as a giant paperweight.
Pine box is kinda fitting.

my first modem was a Zenith ZX75, manual hook up, manual handshaking, at a lightning top speed of 75 baud. Which was attached to my Zenith ZR-1 mainframe, complete with 4 banks of reel to reel, 1 2.5mb 750lb hard drive with platters that were 3ft across, Phosphorescent green monitor, keyboard & 2x8" floppys. Boot time from cold to an a:\ about 2hrs, to get the HD to spin up to operating speed 45 mins. 30 mins to swap reels. Total operating speed about 50hrz. (yep it hertz).

I was in bliss when I got my first IBM 8086 86MHrz with a 5mb HD and a whopping 640kb in ram, and an internal 300bd modem. I was the first kid on my block with a HIGHSPEED modem. And a 16 color monitor. IBM DOS 1.2 loaded on it, and basic games. That was livin..
