truck over heats

What makes my truck boil over when i shut it off?Its a rebult ford 392 runs cool.The needle runs on the n on the temp gauge.When i shut it of it boils over.

Welcome first of all there is a lot of cool members here that know there stuff.
Well it could be lots of things your radiator could be plugged up or your fan clutch might be bad or themostat might be bad start from the cheapest part also look for signs of oil leaking out of fan clutch even a bad radiator cap can cause a lot of problems make sure that your have anti-freeze to start with and never add water/antifreeze while the car is hot and off. Wait for others to chime in you wil see other members will help you out as well. PS-Even having mudd and leaves stuck on the radiator can cause it from not cooling correct.

thanks for the help.The truck runs on the n on the temp guage when driving it seems to be running just wright.then when i shut it off it boils over.Ill try the cap first.

Ok I replaced the radiator cap and it still boils over when i shut off the engine.Its not running hot.what should i do next?

i would suggest having the system flushed.

I assume you don't have a coolant recovery tank and it is boiling over through the overflow tube onto the ground. You must leave enough room for expansion of the coolant when filling the radiator. Just a thought.

it has a over flow tank and it boils over into it.It has rebuilt engine in it and did not do this before the rebuild.
