thanks for your input... the thing that set me off is the ethics of his approach. i'm trying to sell a truck, then someone sabotages the whole deal by accusing me of being a liar... who wants to buy a vehicle from a liar? that kinda kills any chance i'd have of selling the truck. of course i'm gonna be pissed.

for anyone who wants to know, these are the numbers i was going off of...

stock the engine puts out - 275/575

i've seen dyno proof of an increase of 105/175 on a stock application. theoretically, that puts us at 395/775 (crank). i estimated another 10/20 for the intake and 15/30 for the exhaust... putting me at 420/825

that kind of power at the road? of course not... at the wheels its probably low 300s/high 600s. i didn't buy the truck for performance either... i've got a 427R roush mustang with 502 ponies at the wheels and a viper with 658 ponies at the wheels... also got the new supercharged jag xf... so i didn't buy the truck for performance... i bought it because i wanted a big, bad a** truck... and thats exactly what it is!

either way, its a great truck at a great price. so if anyone is still interested (haha) let me know.

and yes, jody is a great guy. on my way back from floirda i actually stopped by his place to pick up the chip. while i was there he went ahead and installed it for me. really cool dude.

What was wrong with my approach. I never called you a liar (Correction, I did, but not in my first post). All I said was your numbers were too high. My intent was not to "sabatoge" your post. Only to tell the truth.. Your original post is INACCURATE! Make all the excuses you want. Call me all the names in the book. I know this from experience, not from adding advertised numbers! Any 7.3 powerstroke from late 00 to early 03 have PMR rods (and since you never answered I take it you don't know what that means) which are powdered metal rods... That are only good for about 425 hp. Some have been known to actually survive 450 hp... the tunes that Jody (which I will agree. jody is one of the best tuners for the 7.3, along with David Lott from diesel innovations and Tony Wildman)gave you for that truck compensate for these rods, but that really doesnt matter because.

1. you don't have the fuel system to accommodate that much horsepower
2. you dont have the turbo to accommodate that much horespower

You said it in your post. The dyno saw an increase of 105 on an EARLY build 7.3. Was it early 99 or late 99 7.3? Did you even pay attention. Regardless that is a whole different animal compared to late 7.3's Early 7.3's had forged rods, but were also rated for less horsepower from the factory. A gain of 105 on a motor that was rated at 220 is actually likely, but I can gaurantee you this. That motor will not see anymore power without digging into the turbo and fuel system..

Since you saw the proof of this improvement why don't you inform us what the actual power was at the wheels? I bet it wasn't over 300 hp at the wheels.

Another thing. I don't know why you keep bringing up you mustang and viper.. That has nothing to do with this. Gassers and Diesels are 2 completely different animals..

in my closing, it's has pretty much been proven that you have no clue about diesels. I don't care how you want to add the math or what ever you want to say. You just don't know. If you can actually prove that your truck is actually making that much power I will formally apologize and retract my statements..

Wow, very interesting thread, but I am also going to have to agree with JW and more so with Big_tone here.... I know many guys who have lifted their ride, and increased horsepower and though the power increase is noticable, gains like that are no where close. And not to mention the gas mileage goes down..... I could accept and believe 12-15 mpg being a diesel, but with those tires and lift, 20mpg? no way. I had a friend in the street racing world who bought a subaru WRX sti and was all excited about the power addons. He bought a s4 turbo which claimed to increase the power by 550hp! However, after the installation and testing, the car actually increased from 300 to a mere 379hp to the wheels. He read the fine print and called everyone he could being very upset at the thousands he spent, and with out a complete engine rebuild, computer chip, timing accesories and so on, he would never get anywhere close to the 850 he was dreaming of. Today's engines, Diesel or gasoline, are just not build like that. One or two addons cannot double for tripple the output. So being a truck guy, and in the automotive sales industry, I agree with the previos posts....... so seriously, good luck selling the truck.

you may need to check your math...you started at 275/575 then added 105/175 well that comes out to be 380/750..not 395/775 so that means that the reast of your numbers are off the total numbers are 405/800 just wanted to point that out!!

no... dyno shows numbers at the wheels... i was going soley with an estimate at the crank... 105/175 at the wheels i estimated as 120/200 at the crank - which would put me at 395/775. i even said 'theoretically' and specified at the crank...

i love how everyone just tries to prove others wrong.

anyway, i'm done arguing. its a sweet truck... its fast, its fun...

Not all dynos run with the motor IN the vehicle.... so that statement is not true.... and BHP and HP are two completely different figures. if you saw an increase of 105BHP then what was the original BHP rating? If you dyno'd it with the motor in the truck and running, then the horsepower is measure in reverse, by braking the vehicle while at full tilt and recording the findings. Most vehisle lose about 20% or so of the actual HP through the tranny, some a lot less, and some a lot more depending on the setup. so if the motor was rated 100 hp for example, it would more then likely lay out about 80bhp or thereabouts.... so before you start "guessing" what the motor is actually doing, take a look at the differences here. and remember, DYNO testing is done more then one way, with more then one result. Just thought I would add that.

why not just have the truck dyno so you can put the dyno numbers up and say xxx hp at the wheels. or pull the motor and have it dyno and say the motor dyno at xxx hp.
