New to me '98 Chevy C2500 75,000 miles

I just traded my 2001 Ford F350 V10 Dually 4 door long bed, and a 94 Jeep Wrangler for this Chevy. I was spending 25 bucks a day on gas with the truck as I couldn't get the Jeep to pass smog. MPG on this is nothing to write home about, but has to beat 10 max! On top of the insurance savings from not having to insure the jeep, I should be able to save some jingle at the pump. The Vin code is R which means it's a 5.7, and the Rear end code is GT4 which means 3.73. The GVWR is 8600 lbs. My trailer weighs 6000 so should be fine. The Dually was overkill! It has a lot of cool options but I do not think it is a Sierra or Silverado. At least there is no emblem. I'll work on my profile and such later....... First post here.

Thanks! Hey do you happen to know why I have two batteries? Would that be from the factory? I have all the codes but all I find is the option for 100 amp generator.

yeah, if its like mine the auxillary battery on the drivers side is soley for powering a trailer source, (*or camper) it has a small charging wire off the main battery...

Very cool.. I have decoded most of the RPO codes for it, and it comes with a ton of options. Deeptint, Highback bucket seats w/lumbar stuff, lotsa chrome trim, etc HD towing pkg. The biggest issue I have so far, is the side mirrors. I went from those super cool Ford mirrors to these little Suburban wannabes. What's a good solution? I do not like those little things that slide on, seems like they are more for the cops than us!

I have a 2000 model 2500 series, obs with the 5.7 engine, 4l80E transmission and 3.73 ratio differential.

I drive it like an old man that I am, it gets 14-15 on the road, when I pull a 6000 TT it gets 10 mpg, but it handles it good.

Truck has 80K, have had to replace transmission torque converter, seams they are weak for a truck this size.

I would have the tranmission flushed or cleaned as it has been a bit of a problem for me and believe me, mine has been well care for.

Good luck with your truck,

I had the V10 for two years, and I got used to the high revs. I called that thing the beast! I feel like this ones not even turning! This one fits in the parking structure and the space much better, and I have way more that 1/4'' clearance making the turn to get out! It doesn't take up near as much driveway either. The Ford was 22 ft. long, and 8 ft. wide!

OK, got some questions now..... I have decided to stick with high quality paper filters and change every 10,000 miles. I am still deciding between Amsoil and Royal Purple. Any comments would be appreciated. I had a 350 sub before (it couldn't handle towing as it was a 1500) and put a AeroTurbine muffler on. I also put one on my V-10. I like the fact they are all SS and having nothing in them to wear out.

Still wondering about a good, reasonable cost mirror solution.

I did have a vin-lock Superchip programmer but sold it when I got the F350. I may get another as it seemed to help.

a dumb question..... When I started up my Ford, I just turned the key and it fired right up. WIth the Chevy, it seems to work better to depress the gas pedal an inch or so momentarily before turning the key. Is this normal?

And what spark plugs work best for this truck?

Thanks!
