99 mazda 3.0 oil leak

99 3.0 mazda 3000 truck the front of the oil pan gasket just under the harmonic balincer is coming out. A oil leak has occurred. Can I just replace the timing belt and remove the front cover and change the gasket on front of oil pan just Like a 302 ford engine or can I just put alot of silicone after replacing the timing cover . book says to replace the oil pan gasket /////alot of work .thanks

if it was me i would replace everything sence you have to drop the pan anyway. to get the timing chain cover off you have to loosen the oil pan there for causing a bad oil leak.

You know, I am going to have to agree with 03 here... perhaps it is a lot of work, but if it were me, I would rather take the time and do what it needs now, then take the risk of more leaks and more money and even more owrk down the road.
