| Well the advantage to the 1 ton is that it already has large axles, and is fairly stout. All of my trucks have either started life as a 1 ton, or have been modified and upgraded to utilize 1 ton drivetrains. The main keys to a succesful mud truck is low weight, big horsepower, and strong enough components to prevent failures. The downside to the heavier and stronger axles is that they are heavy. Large tires weigh quite a bit, and combine this with a little horsepower, and the extra weight of the mud, and you will find that 1 ton axles are of great benifit. Great combo is having a small vehicle like a short bed half ton, or even a bronco or blazer, and upgrade to 1 ton gear! Here is a little vid, of some of my gang having a little fun in the mud. YouTube - Victor's Off-Road Video The more successful trucks are all 1 tons. And for the record, we did re-build the 79 truck that rolled over that day. It is bigger, and better now. Something real cool about having a capable fullsize! |

| 75 is right in many ways, and specifically for playing in mud pits, I personally however, prefer the midsize for the woods only because of the shorter wheel base and manuverability features. The 1ton components are much stronger though and will with stand a lot more abuse. What do you have? What are the plans? I am always interested in these subjects...lol

| Those were taken quite some time ago, and that clip was taken over a large period of time. They are difficult to make out but I have the big red ford, and the short 1 ton chevy with a GMC front clip right at the 20 second mark. They have evolved a littl recently. Here is a little more.
