Red face more power!!!

Hello everyone,
I have a 94' Z71 Chevy k1500, has a bone stock 5.7 motor except a k&N filter and E3 spark plugs. I'm trying to gain more power out of it, Nothing really wild because it has over 500,000 miles now, I know I need the motor to be rebuilt, but while its going the wrenches what could I add on to it to gain more power, again nothing wild, I wanna keep the stock heads, and also keeping a budget under 2,000 - 3,000...

Start with better exhaust system long tube headers into one good sounding muffler like Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Borla, don't do a true dual set up you need back pressure some power pulleys will really help a good tune up and so on. OK now I need feedback from you I posted yesterday info on e3 plugs I seen a show on TV about how good they are please let us know what you think about them? Plus let us know what you have done to your engine thats a ton of miles how did you get so many miles has your transmission died on you yet and so on? I have the whole MSD set up thats why I want to try the e3 plugs.

instead of spending a couple of grand on mods and upgrades, why dont you spend that money on a new long block?? that will get you a different block with money left over for new seals and the other supplies that is required of changing the block. you might find that replacing your tired old engine might give you the same power gain that an aftermarket mod would give you. plus, you will have an engine that will last you another 500K.

I have found the only solution to more power using bolt on parts. I have a 95 with a 357ci. I have read all about everyone wanting to use Vortec heads. Yes there are intakes that will allow this, and it is possible. But, the Vortecs flow 20% better than stock heads. Remember, Vortecs come in 2 cc's 58 & 64. Original TBI heads were 76cc. You can use Vortec heads with a Stock TBI intake. All you have to do is plug the original 8 bolt holes, and drill and tap 12 new ones for the TBI intake. Don't say it can't be done, because mine is done that way. With the added flow you will need to bump the fuel press up slightly or tune the computer. You can avoid the computer tuning by installing a stiffer fuel press regulator spring.

I recently discovered this due to the excess load created by larger tires I installed. My engine was leaning out, backfireing, missing, and so on and so fourth. I can burn chips but I tried the spring first, and it worked.

Those GM intakes are nice but the few minutes of labor and the saving of about $400 it was worth the time.

Chips,
All a chip does is bump the timing up 2-4 degree and raise shift points 250-400 rpm and shift a little quicker.
I can burn a chip and Garauntee it to work for less. I have all chips that have hit the market and read and downloaded the files.

Just by adding Vortec heads your not going to start pulling the front wheels, but you will start hangin in with the new 5.3 & 6.0's. And if you run stock tires and gears you will average about 16-20 Mpg.

usmceric1 will become famous soon enough
So your saying my 96 vortec can hang with the 5.3's and 6.0's??? Anyways, with your truck having that much mileage on it...the engine rebuild would be key. Thats what I would do. You can look into the Vortec heads, try roller rockers, or a cam profile change. I don't know how much you are willing to spend, but a gear change will give you a nice seat of your pants difference. Ask 75K30 about this as I don't know much about it.
