My brother lives in Red Creek NY. It's about 25 miles SW of Oswego
It's beautiful in the summer but sucks in the winter...
Salted roads and lake effect snow...

MPG Improvement

MPG Improvement

Run tire pressure 3-4 psi over std.

Change all drive line systems to synthetic oils

Add K&N air filter or one similar for better air flow

Give it a complete tune up using all AC Delco parts

Add 1 can of seafoam fuel cleaner to tank on the next two fillups.

Change fuel brands, some say it does make a difference, try shell, mobil, etc: alcohol in fuel will hurt your mileage.

Drive it like your sainted grandmother would drive it, slow starts, no run and gun.

For every 5 mph over 55 mph you start losing about 1 mpg.

It takes fuel to move heavy iron, it takes even more fuel to move heavy iron fast.

Good luck and stay safe,

If you had the tire pressure set to whats on the door label ("factory spec")..do it again, check the max inflation listed on the tire and inflate to 10 lbs below that. That should save you about 2-3 MPG.

The tires are L245/75/16 load range "E" The max inflation is 80 psi cold..
The door label states 40 psi cold in the fronts and 65 psi cold in the rears..
The ride is very hard at the factory pressures..I would be leary of increasing the pressure to 70 psi all around as I seriously doubt that would save 2-3 mpg and the ride would be unbearable..I may try 65 in the fronts on the trip for one tank of gas just to determine how much it might save..my guess would be less than 1mpg..
In any event I took a short trip to Miami yesterday ( about 75 miles round trip..I set the cruise control at 65 mph and did not touch it...With the improvements I have made so far the mileage has increased from 14 mpg to 15.5 mpg
This included about 20 miles of stop and go city driving..
I am hopeful that on the 1500 mile trip with no city driving the mpg will increase to 17...I would be satisfied with that..I would love to get 20 but I believe that is unrealistic for this truck...17 to 18 would be great..
