5.7 Chevy short block any difference?

I know the heads are different but are there any differences in the 5.7 350 Chevy short block in an 84 Chevy and a 90 Chevy? I have a new crate motor that was to be installed in an 84 Chevy truck and a new set of heads for a 90 Chevy 5.7, what I need to know is if I change the heads on the new crate motor will it be the same install as in a 90 Chevy truck.

are u just switching out the factory heads 4 vortec ones?

All I am planing to change are the heads. I am not sure if they are Vortec heads though. They are the stock heads from a 1990 Suburban 5.7.

The only possible differences in the block is that the 90 possibly had a roller cam. But not likely, but as far as changing the blocks it will interchange with no problem. You can still use a roller block with flat tappet lifters and cam. Vortec heads came out in 96 and up, the most and the only way to distinguish them from all other heads is that the Vortec head has only 8 intake bolts that only seal the water passages in the front and rear of the head. These bolts are straight up and ther is no water passage in the center of the Vortec head. As for 84 vs 90 heads the center bolts are at different angles but with a small grinder the will also interchange.
