| BBC Tranny Question I've got a 1984 K10 4x4 and I'm dropping in a BBC 402, which is quite a step up from my 305. The tranny is a 700R4, and a lot of people have said that the tranny won't hold up to the new BBC. The BBC's got an aftermarket mild cam, aluminum intake, edelbrock 750cfm performer carb, and will have hooker headers with true dual exhaust. Will the tranny hold up? What do I need to do so that it will (if it won't stock that is)? Any help is very much appreaciated. Thanks. |

| Had a 700R4 behind a 589 CI BBC with almost 800 hp's and it worked fine. Did have a bunch of work done to it, and I would not really do it again, but it did survive. I wanted it mostly for the low first gear, and tried to make the truck "streetable". Smaller engine and a 4l80E sits in her now, but I did manage to keep the 700 alive. I doubt that a mild 396 or 402 is really going to make so much power that you wil have a problem, except that the early 700's were pretty weak. Still as long as the TV cable is adjusted properly it should survive. I would have to say that arond 70% of 700 / 200 failures are a result of poorly adjusted cables. If you do have it rebuilt, you can use planetaries from the later model transmissions or 4L60E's. Lots of parts are interchangeable. Just wondering, does this truck really need an overdrive transmission? A .70 overdrive is desireable for street cars, but would a good old bullet proof Th400 be a reasonable choice? They are a dime a dozen and you will never beat one down. |

| If its a stock 700R4 than your gonna eat it up pretty quickly if you are not light on the big pedal

| If you have a lead foot...you will kill that 700 pretty quick. Go for the upgrade and get yourself a turbo 400...they hold up to BBC pretty well. |
