Paint color change question.

I'm prepping my '81 Chev pickup for painting. Will change color from black to red and want comments on where to break the color on the door. The truck was originally black interior and exterior.

I think the best place to break the color on the body is where the weatherstrip attaches all the way around the door opening. On the door, where would you break, or where did the factory break colors? Would you do it right at the door edge or wrap it around the inside a little? With the door panels staying black, along with most of the door interior, I'm confused as to where to break. I need to repaint the black on the inside of the doors because it is peeling, so saving work is not an option.

Any comments?

Thanks, Ralph.

do you have your heart set on keeping the interior black? those trucks are really easy to strip the interior bare.

IMO I would redo the inside and outside.

break the colors where you want, if you can help it pick a color you can match in a can so you can paint the interior with ease of not dismantling it(speaking from experience), i still havnt painted my door jams on the inside, i will when i want to, the beuty of your year truck the weather stripping comes off easy and shouldnt attach with no glue, but if you dont want to have to remove or tape the interior, when you paint the truck, leave the doors and hood half closed, you know when you shut the door but doesnt close all the way, then after the paint cures, do the inside seperate with a touch up gun or rattle can it(thats why picking a color you can match in a can is great) but unless you plan to remove all the interior dont paint jams and truck at same time more of a chance to hit a wet spot with the hose type ****.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I really don't want to change out, or repaint the whole interior at this time. I will be changing the windshield and some weatherstripping, so I will be almost completely stripped as it is. Extra expense of carpet, seat covers, etc. is something I don't want to face just yet (you know how you have to approach the wife gently on some of these subjects).

Have the wife help you pick out the carpet and colors etc, course the only colors still available for that year are the one you want and several you're sure she will reject. Tell her folks have been mentioning that it doesn't show enough respect for her for you to let the truck stay in such bad appearances. Tell her you think one of the guys from work did something bad in the truck and you need to remove the memory as well as the smell.

You guys sound like you are well versed in dealing with your better half.

I like the suggestion that a friend did something bad in the truck and it needs to be exorcised.

Keep up the good work.
