New Member Need Help

I am a new member and I have a problem I can't figure out. When driving down the road I hear a popping noise and then a high pitched whine. It feels like a brake is dragging slowing me down. I checked the front brakes and changed the rear drums. Everything looks good there. It will do it then quit then start back up again. I am getting ready to change the U joints. Any one have any other ideas?

Welcome to the site sheffie;
We could use a little more information regarding your truck.
Does this truck happen to have a 2 piece driveshaft? That noise could be the center support bearing.
Can you determine where the noise is coming from?

I just pulled the front right tire off and I am pretty sure it is the wheel bearing. It is a 88 K2500 4X4. How hard is it to replace the front wheel bearing?

should only be a 15 minute job with air tools and a torque wrench. you may need a cold chisel and hammer to break the parts free due to rust. my hub cost me around $180, so make sure you found the problem before you throw that much money away.

That solved the problem. Next is to change tie rods and ball joints then, hopefully I'll be done for a while.
