Front Wheel Bearing

It sounds like I have to replace a front wheel bearing in my 2000 S10 ZR2, it sounds like I'm flying in a plane when I get the truck up to speed. Do you know if I can buy just the bearing? Somebody had told me that GM doesn't sell the bearing only, and that I would have to buy the whole hub assembly to fix it. Let me know what you guys think.

You have what are known as "Unit Bearings", these are not serviceable and require complete replacement of the entire assembly. Gonna run you about $150.00 each. I say each, because you should expect to purchase new ubits for each side. Both sides have traveled the same distance over the years so if one is bad, you should expect the other to go bad very soon.

almost 100% agreed. except the technicality of they probably havent travled exactly the same distance due to turning. but close enough. i'd replace them both and i think its like $110 for each. my uncle replaced a set on some1s avalanche not too long ago and for some reason i think i recall him saying $110, but dont hold me to that

so camino, if I'm always going in circles, does that mean I have to replace both only every other time?

yeah, ussually do those one after the other. you'll need a 36 millimeter socket for the axle shaft. every other bolt is an 18. easy job as long as the hub isn't stuck in the spindle too much. remember to bend the backing plate back to its original position before bolting the wheel on, been there, done that.

its funny this problem came up. my nephew, the bow fisherman, all but ran the wheel off of his 97 fullsize last weekend. the caliper was the only thing holding it on. broke the shaft off of the end of the cv joint inside the hub assembly. new hub assembly and cv costs him about 200 i think. took the lugnut cover off and the nut and threads fell and rolled across the floor.

just fyi, I have seen these things on ebay. new after market parts. can usually get both sides for a lower price like maybe both for 225.00. I have used junk yard hubs on my wife 99 jimmy with good success, but that's a **** shoot.
