Lookin for some help

I have a 98 K1500 Chevy and just recently I have lost power steering only when I turn left. I saw this forum and noticed the ppl on here are quite willing to help so I was wondering what might be the problem. I thought it might be air in the lines but am not quite sure how to bleed them. I thought I saw somewhere that the 98's are supposed to be self bleeding. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

you probably need a steering box. there is a couple of valves in there that control boost. if you have powersteering in one direction but not the other, I'd start there.

I would start with the bleeding, it at least would be the cheaper of the troubleshooting, however you really shouldn't have air in your lines unless you ran it out of brake fluid, is that a possibility? Sorry can't give any info on how to bleed, never seen or worked with "self bleeding".

All hydraulic steering systems will self bleed, however there is a little bit of a procedure.
Moostang brings up a good point, (although this will use hydraulic fluid / power steering fluid and not brake fluid), there would only be a need to bleed if air was somehow introduced. The system will not, or can simply just pick up air, it wil have to run out of fluid in order for this to happen.
If that is the case, then there is a leak, and other issues will need to be addressed.
Procedure for beeding:
Remove cap for reservoir, start engine, and cycle (slowly) the steering wheel from left to right completely from stop to stop while inspecting the level in reservoir. If air is present, the reservoir level will decrease and fluid will have to be added. Many air bubbles will surface during this process.
The pump is still working, so you can eliminate that, and the next thing would indicate a stuck valve in the box. Sometimes a fluid flush will fix it, and then it may just need a new box, just as Joe suggested above
Good luck, and welcome to the site.

Your gonna need a new gearbox. if it works one direrection and not the other. Your pump supplies pressure and the gearbox convers it to left or right. Check fluid level first of course.

Well he never came back, but...
since it's newer than a 97 it could be a bad EVO sensor
on the steering column. Easy ohm check, common failure.

thanks for the info. I still haven't had time to figure out what's wrong with it. I'll keep posted if I do anything.
