You can run the truck without a front driveshaft, but we need to slow down. What t-case is behind the TH 700 that has a pass side drop? Did it come from an earlier model truck? Does it have the same length output for the rear, and is it the same as your current vehicle? Two types of outputs, slip yoke style, and fixed. They are not interchangable and will require shaft modifications. As far as your SAS, which front axle are you going to run? A chevy / dodge, or a ford front axle? This should determine which t-case you are going to use. Why not keep your existing t-case, and just use the new transmission? That would seem to be a reasonable solution that would solve all of your problems. As far as the speedo goes, there are a couple of ways to go, you will have to determine exactly which style you have now.

Thank you for the kind words, awfull nice of you to say. http://www.sky-manufacturing.com/ These guys have always done me right. I have no experience with the guys in your link. Looks nice though. I do recall you were wanting to use the chevy front axle, and the chevy drop case. Should be no problem at all. As far as the speed goes, you are gonna want to midify the gauges anyway. Did you know that Autometer gauges drop right in the openings of the stock chevy dash? They do, and it only takes a little work to do. The reason I recommend autometer, is because thay offer both style of output from your transmission. So if the new trans and 205 case is all together, you can simply throw that in and be done. Just figure out what style speedo it has, and buy the right speedo. It will be easy to do, and look really good. Later as money permits you can start upgrading all of them until you have a complete set. There are also adapters available that will take a cable input and convert it to pulse if you need. Heak it sounds like you have this thing ready to roll. Time to break out the gloves and plasma cutter. Better get the pizza guy on speed dial, and make sure the fridge has a few cold ones in it. I am getting excited about it as we speak. In So. CA? I would be happy to lend a hand.

My neighbor swaps rear ends on his 84 for one with a higher gear ratio when doing daily freeway commutes. He leaves the front axle alone but pulls the front drive line. He's been doing this for years but still wonders if he's hurting something. It would be interesting to hear just what he should worry about.

Like a "shark suit", there is only one way to test that! Afraid you are going to have to bolt it to an engine and drive it to determine its function. heak that is part of the fun, except when it does not work, then it is well,,,,not so fun, but hey it is still an experience. Hunting, I used to be an avid hunter, and have been known to have a few moose steaks in the freezer. Elk and deer are my favorite, but I also enjoy hunting birds. Small game, but I do find my way up north to get a few duck and geese. suppose my favorite game bird is the pheasant. Smart fellas, and terribly tasty! I like you idea regarding the use of your land, just consider the liabilities that come with it. I was a small partner in an off road park, and it was a disaster. Talk about heavy a financial burdon. The insurances alone are enough to make a grown man cry. Oh yeah, these types of premiums are paid all at once, and you will need to have some pretty serious rules (and enforce them) to prevent any mishaps that may lead to a claim against said policy. Enough of that, I like the idea. It sounds great, and I hope it works for you. Yeah, the Autometer gauges can work in your existing bezel. The individual gagues that are 2 5/16" are a little bit large, but can be made to fit in the existing holes. There are several methods for mounting into existing holes. You just have to be creative. Give me a few minutes to uncover my 57 chevy, and remove the steering wheel, and I will take a few pics of the gauges that I installed in the original holes. Came out as clean as any aftermarket set-up and still looks as though the factoery did it 50 years ago.

pics of gauges Here is the general idea. These are taken this morning. These are from my 1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 dr hard top. I have a fairly large engine in this, but it appears to be all stock. 4.88 rear gears with a super tight posi, a roller motor (big inch small block with aluminum heads) really get this big old car motivated. A little nitrous helps when I bite off more than I can chew. Anyway, this is a generl idea of how aftermarket gauges can be installed into factory openings. It does not require that they have to look butchered up or hacked together. take your time, and they can come out fairly clean. Advantage is that it can be reversed if you want to go back to original. Darn, files are too large. PM me for e-mail exchange and I wil send them to you.
