| info needed on soild axel swap i was woundering if anyone that uses this site has ever done a soild axel swap under there 1988- 1994 vehicle ? Im woundering what i am going to run into , or probleums that might arise .. any information would be awsome , or web sites that sell products for the procedure .. In not to sure on what axels i am going to use , and as long as i have the sam gear ratio in the back axel as the front , can i keep the axel that is under the rear of my truck now , it is a 1989. im not to sure what type of axel it is .. Is full floating better than semi ??? Would it be a 12 bolt , or a 10 bolt?? I might go with a dana , but i dont know how to identify the different types of them , or what doner trucks they would be under. my transfer case asn trany is a 700r4 with a np 205 .. is there a way i can make is gear driven instead of chain?? is there really that much of an advantage to gear over chain?? any help is greatly appericated . thanks again pscheers |

| There are a few web sites that deal in this area. A lot of thing must be considered. How much money do you have or can afford to spend? Are you plannin on an easy bolt in or custom? How high do you want to go? Do you have access to a donor vehicle? Are you going to stay with a left hand drive or swap to the Original GM Right hand drive, one cost more than the other. What type of ride quality are you seeking? Do you have the resources and tools to do this? www.offroaddirect.com Has the best deals, and step by step directions. I prefer them because I don't care for ridiculousy high lift. I still hunt and travel in 4X4. I also want a decent ride also. My choice: Lift brackets are goin to lift 3in right off. I want a good ride, I choose 2.5" stock springs from a Blazer. A dana 44 from a 77-78 Bronco. Maybe a set of 34-36 in tires. Not too wide or too tall. I would prefer a little under gearing as maybe a 5.00 plus gear and a limited slip or auto locker. Do the home work first, it will save you from getting unwanted results. and also save you from crying at the pump. Last edited by Sneakysportsman; 10-07-2007 at 03:37 PM. |

| I have doen several solid axle swaps, You can use the chevy axles, but your transfer case will need to be cahnged also. Most people (self included after the first one) use a ford front end and you can use you current transfer case. Its easier adn alot cheaper that way. i would recommend avoiding the 1/2 ton stuff if your going to run bigger than 33s. Go 3/4 ton or 1 ton axles.
