88 chevy 350 TBI cuts out hello, i have an 88 chevy silverado 350 TBI that will start up just fine, run for 5 to 10 seconds and then shut off (just like i turn the key off) it does not spit and sputter just shuts off. i replaced the cap, rotor and the electronic module under the cap. it stopped doing this for a few months, and now it started doing it again, it will not start up again unless i turn the key off, if i do it will start for the 5 to 10 seconds every time and turn off. i canhear the fuel pump pressure up every time. i have to turn the key off every time and it will fire for a few seconds, after doing this several times it will eventually take off and run great untill i shut it off with the key. then even when warm does not want to start up again. i have called several mechanics and got a lot of puzzled faces, let me know if you have any ideas thanks!

Welcome to the site: bradrhale made a great suggestion with regards to spark. have you verified that the spark is completely gone? I had a coil go bad that did this same thing with voltage to it (key on). It would start up, and immediately turn off until i turned the key off and the ething cooled for a minute of two, then same thing. If I left the key on, no start at all. I would check for spark after it tuns off without turning the key off and see if it is spark related. Should tell you just about everything you need to know.

did thta model have the resistor that bumped voltage going to the coil? have seen those things crack a little and get erratic voltage readings. if no spark is present, start backwards and work your way towards the coil. saves on buying unnessary parts.

wouldn't it be in the fuel system ,cause if was spark when you restart it , it would back fire cause of all the fuel being pumped in there with no spark , so i think it's in the fuel pump relay etc.

I have a intake and maybe the carb from a 88 GMC 350 if you need one. I took this stuff off to put old school intake/carb on my 69 vette I just sold.

Mine did that and it was the fuel pump relay. It's a 13 dollar part at Advance/autozone. Might be worth a try. Steve
