"got to press the gas and hold the pedal for it to crank" ??
Do you mean for it to crank or to fire ? Is this taking like almost half a minute to fire ? Have you checked for water or loose wiring for pump relay ? Does it have any problem after it fires ?

I assume your truck is throttle body. Take the air filter off and look at the bottom of the injectors while it is running. If the lower o ring is leaking it will **** out gas and flood the engine (and use gas like crazy too) You will see it should look like a nice umbrella spray. I just fixed this on my 4.3. it cost me $34 for the throttle body rebuild kit. You can remove both injectors from the top by taking out about 7 torx head screws removeing the cover then prying jently on the steel center of the injectror that is sticking up. Injector will come out. I think when you open the throttle while starting it put the computer into 'flood clear' mode. MAKE SURE AFTER YOU FIX THIS THAT YOU HAVE NO LEAKS. If it is leaking fix it BEFORE the fire....

thanks everyone i will look into it this weekend. I havent drove the truck since monday b/c of this. yesterday i cranked it and still have to give it gas. but now after it is warmed up i give the truck a little gas and it wants to act like it isnt getting any gas and wants to die. could this also be from flooding caused by the throttle body

ok i changed out my fuel lines and the filter, now my truck it starting fine but i stil get the studdering when i start hitting the gas to go from a dead stop or rolling. it don't happen as much when i press the gas lightly. i took off the air filter and i saw that the holder and gas on the inside bottom. wat could cause that and how to fix it.
