| changing the shift solenoids? i am wanting to know how to change the shift solenoids in my 4L60. if anybody can give me some advice i would greatly appreciate it, i figure i've got a little time on my hands i might as well try it and see, if it dont help at least i'll know what needs to be done afterwards. also this is my first chevy 4wd and i was wondering how to fill the t-case or if it is filled by the transmission somehow or another, i didnt really see a good way to fill it when i had it all tore apart, there was a bolt/plug on the side of it but it didnt seem like it would be a good place to fill it, i might just be makin an idiot of myself but a heads up on that would be appreciated. |

| Changing the solenoid is pretty simple. drop the pan and all the solenoids shoule be exposed. unbolt and replace. as for the transfer case I don't remember if they have an external fill. If i remember right te fluid from the tranny runs in and out of the t-case too on that truck. If not then there should be 2 plugs on the case. One drain and one fill.

| well for once i was actually thinkin in the right direction on both of those, but... how will i know which solenoid is which, im gonna take the 2-3 3-OD or whichever one is 3rd gear and OD out of my other tranny and stick them in there and if it works i'll drive it til it quits and then have it professionally rebuilt. |

| when i yanked my tranny and had it rebuilt the napa guys suggested gear lube for the transfer case. i don't believe the tranny and transfer case share fluid. it's a pain to fill when bolted in the truck, i think i got more on the floor then i did in the case. lol Edit: autozone specifies SF fluid for the case. |

| It's an aluminum case so tranny fluid would be fine. It shouldn't even take 2 qts to fill it. there are 2 big bolts on the back of the TC use the upper bolt. It is usually stuck pretty good if it hasn't been taken off recently. It requires a 31 or 32 mm socket. just screw on a cap from a gear lube bottle if you have one around. the coned cap and a finger to plug it makes it alot easier to get the bottle over the frame brace without spilling it all over.
