| cb antenna install i installed my new cb radio in my silverado '03 ext cab... i suprised myself and it looks and works flawlessly.... i got a magnetic mount antenna, and im looking for the most efficent, cosmetically sound way to get my coax wire out of the cab and on the roof with the mount... ive tried running it through the vents on the back of the cab ini between the bed and cab, but it wud not fit, ive heard of running it through the 3rd brake light but im worried about water proofing with that... any and all suggestions are greatly apreciated, thanks

| I mounted a home-made stainless steel bracket that mounts on the top of the inside lip of the fender near the firewall, using the two fender bolts. The CB antenna matches the location of the OEM radio antenna, only it's on the driver's side. Then ran the antenna cable through the firewall to the console I fabricated to mount on the tranny hump.

| I used to have to truck-hop mag antennas and kinda think "cosmetically" slightly pushes the envelope of opinion. For what it's worth, I found closing a door or flap window to be acceptable with some thought given to visible wire routing. Avoid dangles or pull setups. Couple other thoughts though. Where you place the ant is important to the send and recv directional strength. High and center of large sheet metal areas gives better results in all directions, acts like reflector ground plane. Mag ant's cables don't behave well when shortened or coiled. Try to avoid routing near other electrical circuits, including speaker wires. When you have placed and routed cable, redo SWR tune of whip. If you must cross other sensitive wires, try to do at 90deg, less crosstalk/static. |

| i've got a cb in my truck and i have dual whips and it is very hard to run the wires while still looking cosmetically good. i usually run them out of the door and down however it is hard to get them to the right length so there is no slack. it always ends up to long or too short. i would not run the antenna through your third brake light for your reason of weatherproofing. good luck to you man |
