clicking noise

i have a 1996 k1500 350 5.7l vortec and a couple of weeks ago i went to push my dome override switch on the left side of the steering column and all the dome lights went on. then i went to turn the off and nothing happened. i could not get the lights to turn off so i eventually removed all the bulbs. then i drove for a little bit and all of a sudden i heard this rapid clicking noise from the direction of my switch and it sounded like the click when your blinker is on only is was more rapidly and only did it in like 2 second spurts. i checked all the fuses to see if one of them looked bad and nothing. i pushed the dome override button in again after a couple weeks of clicking and now i have not heard it since. i took the switch out and it looked normal however there were not wires that went to the dome override switch just to the dimmer control. if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

96 with a dome overide??????? Not sure that is possible.
Provided that you could get any relay to energize might indicate that you should consider problems with combination switch. I believe that most of the light circuits are directed through the light switch itself.

I only question the dome overide, because my 96 tahoe does not have one, but my 2000 does. Regarless the switch may have aproblem.

push the button in and it keeps the interior lights from coming on when the door is open. i only use it to save the battery when working on my interior and have to keep the door open.

Since my truck is too old to have that, I just use the "O.J.Simpson" lite.
Probably nobody remembers, I know... Don't even bother telling me...
