Transmission Fluid (for '75)?

I'm new, and yes, I did do a search, but I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. And there are so many interesting threads, I kept losing the concentration battle and reading other things that I didn't really need to know (not yet, at least).

I have a 1975 Chevy ("Scottsdale"), V8. I really haven't had it all that long, I had another '75 before this one that had *no* problems, but I got wrapped up in this current one and did the stupid thing of selling off Mr. Reliable. Current one needs a lot of restoring. Anyway, can anyone make some suggestions as to what transmission fluid is the best for it ("him," actually)? He has a ton of miles on him. I do not know exactly how many, but I do know as told by former owner that it has not less than 50,000 ~ probably nearing the 80,000 mark or higher. Its mileage gauge doesn't work (it only says 35,000/something, but that is far from true), but the others do.

Other than that, I'll just be enjoying reading these forums. Maybe I can get some restoration ideas and such here. *waves*

Welcome to the site Tangent;
What part of Az are you from? I have two homes in Tucson, though I reside in So. Ca.
At any rate the "dipstick" for the transmission will have some print that has the fluid requirements.
Might be tough trying to find some of the earlier Dex products, but newer Dex III is compatible with earlier stuff, and can be used on your early Th350 or 400.

i looked up transmission stuff since i was thinking of trying a transmission filter kit and new fluid. i looked up the stuff at oreilly's online and it came up saying the fluid type, how much and so forth. if i remember right it said Dexron2...but Dexron3 is compatible since it is more or less the upgraded stuff.

Thanks for the welcome! I just realized that I listed my truck as a '75, but it's actually a '73...it has '75 parts on/in it, however, and is mistaken for that year a lot. Whoops! I feel like an idiot. *headdesk* I knew I should've thought before I posted. Anyway, thanks for the "dipstick" tip. I'll take a look at it. I was thinking the Dex 3 would be good, but I'm more educated on wires than fluids (slowly learning these things, but enjoying it very much), so I didn't trust myself to just go buying what I thought would be okay.

Thanks for the O'Reilly's suggestion. I'm going to go bookmark that right now.

~~~And, see what I get for not fully thinking out my post? I leave things out. I'm in Bullhead City, AZ. That's about 4-5 hours away from Tucson (i'm assuming, since it takes me 4 hours and a small handful of minutes to get to phoenix, and i'm not exactly sure how much farther tucson is).
73, 75, no biggie, the same rules apply with regards to fluids, (and just about everything else actually).
Bullhead City huh. Tucson is exactly 100 miles south of Phoenix, si is a long way from Bullhead. Usually in Laughlin, Bullhead, reiver in general during boat season. Not a full blown "river rat", but do spend my share of time out there.
